Construction
All Hovel Studio pieces are hand crafted, one at a time, using time
tested techniques, enhanced by up to date technology. Our drawers are
dovetailed for strength and durability. Mortise and tenon joinery is a
mainstay.
Modern advances in hardware ensure that beds fit together properly and with
strength, that drawers slide smoothly, and doors stay square and snug. Turnings
are done individually, by hand, allowing attention to crisp detail, and
symmetry of line.
Each and every piece is fully assembled and fitted before delivery,
guaranteeing problem-free set up in your home, cottage, or office.

Woods
All Hovel Studio furniture is constructed in solid wood: the best
available from our many sources. Choose from pine, oak, maple, mahogany, or any
wood of your choice. A limited supply of reclaimed wood is available for an
instant heirloom. All woods used are kiln dried to the proper percentage of
moisture content, and are selected with an eye for grain and texture match.
The Hovel Studio has a limited supply of exotic (Bird's Eye Maple, Curly
Maple, Quilted Maple, Spalted Maple, Quarter Sawn Oak, Flaming Birch) and
antique (Elm, Butternut, Pine, Oak, Yellow Birch) wood. The antique lumber has
been reclaimed from the floors of our Great Lakes, where it has been for about
100 years.
These logs are all 'old growth" timbers, no longer found, and have an extremely
dense growth ring pattern, making this wood more durable and stable. The
minerals in the waters have coloured some of this wood in a most interesting
and unusual way. If you are looking for a truly outstanding one of a kind
piece, our design team can explain these unique woods and their best
applications, and help you design your instant heirloom.
Finish
Looking for a matching piece? Trying to co-ordinate to your decor? Want that
eye-catching, one of a kind accent? Custom, professional finishing is
available, allowing you full scope in your finished look.
If you're looking for hand painted motifs, faux finishing, or antiquing, Hovel
Studio has a fine artist on staff. Or save money by choosing an
unfinished piece, and create your own "work of art".
All prices mentioned include finishing (unless otherwise stated).
